Expert Tips to Lose the Last 10 Pounds

Anyone who has gone on a long-term weight loss plan knows that, without a doubt, losing the “last 10 pounds” is one of the most difficult thing to do. This is because — after weeks of regular exercise and dieting — your body has adapted. It has become much more “efficient” and burns far fewer calories during exercise than it once needed to.

It’s also moved into “survival mode” and is fighting to hold on to those last 5 – 10 pounds of fat, which your brain considers to be vital stored energy. This is a very useful mechanism when you’re actually out in a jungle somewhere with very little food. But it’s a huge pain-in-the-butt when you’re trying to get a 4-pack or 6-pack!

Here are a few proven tips to help you lose those last 10 pounds…

1. Exercise at a higher intensity level. High-intensity exercise can be a very effective way to burn off body fat faster. In fact, studies have shown that losing “stubborn” fat (i.e. the last few pounds) requires more intense exercise — around 80% of your maximum heart rate. Interval training is a good way to achieve this, plus it’s been shown to have an after-burn effect, where your body continues to burn fat for several hours after your workout.

2. Cut out all processed, man-made foods. For at least 2 weeks cut out all processed foods and watch your stomach get flatter day-by-day. An ultra “clean” diet has been shown to be the most effective when it comes to getting rid of those final 10 lbs… which is exactly why so many fitness models and even some natural bodybuilders eat 100% natural, unprocessed diets before competitions and photo shoots. For best results eat lots of protein and veggies, with a bit of healthy fat and fruit.

3. More sleep, no alcohol. It seems simple but lack of sleep and overindulgence in alcohol are 2 of the most common things that hold back peoples’ weight loss. If you’re not getting at least 7 hours of quality sleep per night and limiting alcohol intake to no more than a few (like 4-6) drinks per week, you’re almost definitely short-circuiting your body’s natural fat loss mechanisms.
